In a tribute to 175 years of prayer, witness and service, FSPA proudly presents Sister Pauline Wittry as the Artist of the Month. Sister Pauline’s journey, marked by creativity and devotion, echoes the longstanding tradition of art within the FSPA community.

Born in 1926 in Breda, Iowa, Sister Pauline’s artistic journey took root during her college years at Montana State University. After 13 years as a dietician at St. Francis Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin, she pursued a master’s degree in psychology from Loyola University, Chicago. Her diverse career included serving as a hospital chaplain, earning recognition with the Iverson Freking Ecumenical Recognition Award and advocating unity among faiths.

Retiring to St. Rose Convent in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Sister Pauline immersed herself in the world of watercolors. In an interview with Ashland Daily Press, she shared her artistic evolution, recounting the early days of making ink silhouettes of Mary and later expanding into watercolor painting, jewelry design and crafting handmade cards.

“My love of art is now being fulfilled,” Sister Pauline reflects.
