Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration Cecilia Muehlenkamp was born in the Town of Eagle, Wisconsin. In 1853 Sister Cecilia’s parents embarked for America traveling from Westheim, a little village in Bavaria, Germany, to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Unaccustomed to city life, they decided to make a home and settle down on a farm in a log cabin in Eagle, Wisconsin, just east of Milwaukee. In 1873 the sisters opened the Catholic school at St. Mary’s Ridge. During her time boarding there, she notes admiring their mode of living, and on September 19, 1874, she entered St. Rose Convent in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Sister Cecila studied under Professor Bernard Durward from Milwaukee. Her most notable artwork is her portrait of Reverend Killian Flasch. Sister Cecilia died at St. Rose at the age of 78.
