Sister Joanne Moeller's Story & Gallery
Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration Joanne Moeller was born in 1937 and grew up in West Point, Iowa. Originally taught by her grandmother, she has created an array of work in fiber using counted cross-stitch, quilting and painted fabric. Sister Joanne holds a master’s degree in clothing, textiles and related art, a master’s degree in pastoral studies and a Ph. D. in education. She has worked as a business manager at Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center in Hiawatha, Iowa, and as director of both the Franciscan Retreat Center and Stonehaven Event Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 2016 she received the honor of Outstanding Director of the Stonehaven Event Center. Sister Joanne’s award came with the recognition of “creating the new ministry and making it successful.” In turn she said of Stonehaven, “We have ministered to a new group of clients who we were able to touch with Franciscan hospitality and joy.” Her delicate creations show the same careful touch she led with during her career in hospitality. She has made a number of quilted pieces inspired by the Colorado landscape and atmosphere included in her gallery.
