At the age of 89 and in the sixty-seventh year of religious profession, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration Nancy Lafferty died on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, at St. Rose Convent in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Born in Iowa to family of 11 children, she professed her first vows as a Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration in La Crosse, Wisconsin, on Aug. 12, 1958. With numerous academic achievements to her name, culminating in a Ph.D. from Washington University in interdisciplinary studies that included social work, sociology and education, Sister Nancy taught secondary, college and university students across the country. She also served as a principal and director of a parish ESL program and a retreat center. While quiet in demeanor, Sister Nancy’s passion for peace and justice had her jailed for protesting the Vietnam war and U.S. military spending and took her to educational mission trips in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
