In honor of Black Catholic History Month this November, the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas selected Chinotu Kwelle, a senior at Mount St. Mary Academy, to research Servant of God and Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration Thea Bowman, who is on the path to canonization.
In a recent Arkansas Catholic publication, Chinotu shared her admiration for Sister Thea Bowman, “One thing that inspired me was that when (Bowman) was diagnosed with cancer, she was still one of the most joyful, happiest people,” she added, “She still lit up the room anywhere she went, and she was very resilient and trusted God in the process. She didn't question God. She didn’t stop her ministry. She didn’t stop preaching the good news. She kept going until she died."
